Tuesday, April 22
Ever fancied trying your hand at the traditional art of willow weaving? Four 2.5-hour workshops will be running at Northwood Community Arts between 10am and 3.30pm on the 22nd and 23rd. Participants will be making a small decorative item under the watchful eye of artist and tutor Chris Oldham, with the opportunity to help create a living willow structure in the grounds of St John’s Church, Hallowell Road. Suitable for anyone over the age of seven, the cost is £3.50 per participant. Booking is essential on 01628 675800.
Wednesday, April 23
English performance poet John Hegley is doing a turn at the Winston Churchill Theatre as part of World Book Night. Refreshments and live poetry start the evening off from 6pm, with Hegley’s three-hour stint starting at 7. Tickets are £4 and available from Manor Farm library.
Friday, April 25
Staff, volunteers and pups from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People will be dropping into the senior residents’ coffee morning at Oak Farm Library from 11.30am. After a brief talk about the outstanding work they do in the community, there will also be a chance for visitors to find out how to get involved through volunteering opportunities.
Saturday, April 26
The 100th anniversary of the start of World War One is remembered at Harefield Library, where locals are encouraged to bring in any family artefacts to be photographed for both preservation and a local display. Computers will also be on hand for guests to search for family information with Ancestry and the Times Digital Archive. Run in association with the Harefield History Society, the event starts at 10am and runs until 2pm. Booking is required on 01895 558184.
