THOSE dreaming of playing football at a big ground may have their opportunity as a Harefield hospital worker and his father are auctioning spots to play at Vicarage Road, home of Watford FC.

Lee Jeffries and his father, from Hillingdon, are organising a charity football match in aid of Harefield Hospital on Saturday, May 17.

Bidding for a starting position on the Harefield Heart or Harefield Lungs teams started at £20 but many bids have gone well over £100 already.

Lee Jeffries, a clinical outcomes officer at the hospital, was on duty when he heard his father was being rushed to his place of work.

“I was waiting on the front steps of Harefield for around 20 minutes but it felt like a lifetime,” he said.

“The staff at the hospital were so good to me, trying to comfort me and keep me calm. Without them I probably would have broken down into pieces.”

His father had suffered a heart attack and was taken to the hospital’s catheter lab for a primary angioplasty, an emergency treatment to clear a blocked artery.

After less than 40 minutes in theatre, Lee’s father pulled through.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to the consultant and all the staff that were involved in my Dad’s case that day,” Lee said.

“I see most of the staff every day, but words would never be enough to show my appreciation to them.

“This is why I want to give something back to Harefield Hospital. This event will raise money for much-needed equipment to carry on saving lives, just they did for my Dad.”

Queen’s Park Rangers have also sent a signed shirt for auction.
