FIVE FOR A FIVER: Where to go in and around Hillingdon this coming week for £5 or less WITH the second May Bank Holiday and half-term upon us, make sure you are stocked up on ideas to keep the whole family amused this week.

Here are my top five suggested items in the borough for under £5.

Monday, May 26

This Bank Holiday Monday, spend time with the family at Denham Village Fair which hopes to raise funds for the upkeep of St. Mary’s Church. Held annually in Village Road, the fair has its origins in the 15th century. The event starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm and the entire road will be closed in order to make way for stalls, fairground rides and refreshments.

Tuesday, May 27

As part of Artsweek, Northwood Community Arts are holding a number of Chinese cultural experiences. On Tuesday, those over the age of six can try their hand at the art of creating Chinese lanterns. Taking place at Hallowell Road, Northwood, the event starts at 10:30am and runs for two hours. Tickets are £5 per person. Wednesday, May 28

To launch Converse’s Wall of Clash campaign, the Powerhouse at The Old Vinyl Factory in Blyth Road, Hayes, has been transformed into an extensive mural. One of the creators will be giving a guided tour of the mural, with guests able to hear all about the creative process. Entry is free and the tour starts at 5:30pm.

Thursday, May 29

What lives in the River Colne? Find out at this one-hour event at Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre, Denham Court Drive, Denham, beginning at 11am. Saturday, May 31

Bharatanatyam is a classical dance style, which originates from the temples of Southern India. It’s also one of the most popular Indian dance styles in the world – and you can learn the basic steps at the Compass Theatre from 10.30-11.30am. Make sure you have an Artsweek brochure on you, as admission will be just £5!
