MORE than 15,000 people live with diabetes in Hillingdon, with a further 4,000 cases expected by 2020.
Hillingdon Hospital consultant Mark Edwards talk on the subject at the People in Partnership meeting at Uxbridge Civic Centre on June 2.
βItβs fair to say we have a major challenge on our hands,β said Dr Edwards, who has seen the number of people affected by the condition steadily increase during his career as a specialist.
A poor diet, lack of exercise and lifestyle are all contributing factors. The next generation looks like repeating the mistakes of the present one unless there is greater personal awareness of diabetes
Weight is also a key factor, with more than 17% of girls and 20% of boys in Year Six now classed as obese.
Dr Edwards will be making his presentation at 6.20pm. The meeting is open to the public and runs from 6-8pm and also includes a presentation from hospital chief executive Shane Degaris.
