FIVE FOR A FIVER: Where to go in and around Hillingdon this coming week for £5 or less
THE latest weather forecast shows the UK is heading for a two-week heatwave. Make the most of the summer window by getting out and about in Hillingdon.
Here are my top five suggested items in the borough for under £5.
Tuesday, July 15
As part of this summer’s national Reading Challenge, Eastcote and Harlington libraries are hosting a mythical maze-themed story time, with colouring and simple crafts. Eastcote’s session runs from 2-3pm and is suitable for up to five years old, while Harlington’s activities are 11-11.30am for those aged 4-11.
Thursday, July 17
Pull on your cowboy boots for a one-hour line dancing session, suitable for those with disabilities. Running at the DASH Hub, Uxbridge from 1.30-2:30pm, the dance moves incorporate easy-to-follow steps. Cost is just £2.
Saturday, July 19
Proms season is nearly upon us, but Hillingdon residents can start early with Proms in the Parish at St Jerome’s Church, Hayes. The evening includes four concerts: the R.A.F.A brass band, a male-voice Welsh choir, a local jazz band and a local mixed-harmony voice choir. Each concert is £5, with the evening starting at 7.30 and finishing at 10.30.
Sunday, July 20
A Family Fishing fun day is at Little Britain Lake, Cowley, with hourly sessions between 9.30am and 3:30pm. Other activities, such as river dipping, a bouncy castle, craft tent and face painting, will be taking place – all for free.
Sunday, July 20
This year’s Hillingdon Youth Festival looks to celebrate the youth of the borough with a free afternoon of food, games and live music from 2-6pm. Expect a BBQ, inflatable bungee run and rodeo ball at the Old Vinyl Factory, Hayes.
