FOUR new awards, for Ruislip Lido, Manor Farm in Ruislip, the Rural Activities Garden Centre in West Drayton Road and Yeading Valley Meadows, have underlined Hillingdon’s reputation as the greenest borough in the country.

It has more Green Flag awards, now 28, than any other authority, for the second year running.

Hillingdon has 12 flags for parks and open spaces in the north of the borough and 16 in the south.

Cllr Jonathan Bianco, cabinet member for finance, property and business services, said: “We also have the most land in London under Green Flag status, too. It’s a great start to Love Parks Week.”

The Green Flag Awards, managed by a group of environmental charities, are the highest mark of quality for parks and open spaces. Winners must apply each year to renew their status.

The national award is judged on criteria, including a welcoming place, healthy, safe and secure, well maintained and clean, sustainability, conservation and heritage, community involvement, marketing and management.
