THE Conservatives’ new prospective parliamentary candidate for Hayes & Harlington is looking forward to fighting her first general election in May next year.

Before then, however, she has en even bigger date inked into her diary as Pearl Lewis is getting married next month to her partner of two years, James.

Miss Lewis, 27, the youngest member of Aylesbury Vale Council in Bucks, was announced this week as the Tories’ choice to take on John McDonnell next May.

It’s a daunting task as Mr McDonnell, the sitting MP since 1997, had a majority of 10,824 in 2010.

She is currently Quality Assurance Manager at the University of Buckingham and has a particular interest in education at all levels.

Miss Lewis has been a school governor for two years and is supportive of recent reforms, like the creation of academies and free schools.

On perhaps the biggest issue facing constituents in Hayes & Harlington, she is against a third runway at Heathrow.

“There just isn't the evidence in the long term that an increase in capacity is needed,” she said. “Businesses are changing the way they work to reduce physical travel."

She helped her father in the family business as a teenager and then worked for a year to expand the firm after graduating.

Cllr Dominic Gilham, vice-chairman of Hayes & Harlington Conservative Association, said: “I have every confidence that Pearl will stand up for ALL Hayes and Harlington residents and give the incumbent socialist MP a run for his money at the next election.”
