A MAN from Harmondsworth has been jailed after officers found two guns and ammunition in the glove compartment of his car.

A second man is also serving a jail term after forensic specialists found his DNA on the same guns.

Yaser Kelleher, 26 of Hatch Lane, was jailed for eight years for possession of a firearm.

Mohamed Darik, 22, from North-West London, was jailed for five years for possession of a firearm.

He pleaded not guilty alongside Kelleher in September and the jury failed to reach a verdict.

Following a retrial at Isleworth Crown court on Wednesday, the jury took just over one hour to convict him.

They were both sentenced yesterday.

The court heard how, one evening in March, police were called to an address in Hatch Lane after a report of an assault.

Kelleher initially gave a false name, but his true identity was established and he was arrested. A search of his car disclosed two handguns and ammunition in the glove compartment.

Forensic examination of the guns revealed Darik's DNA and he was arrested at his home.

Det Sgt Beverley Kofi, from Hillingdon CID said: ""Darik truly believed he was innocent and did not have any involvement with the guns. What he failed to understand is that police will use every tool we have to catch those involved in gun crime.”
