MICHAEL SOBELL Hospice is launching its Pounds Off £’s In 10 week sponsored fund-raising challenge in January, to encourage healthy eating and weight loss in the New Year.

January is that time in the year when everyone feels the need to lose some weight after the indulgences of Christmas.

This is the perfect opportunity for people to shed pounds while raising some pounds for their local hospice.

For a £20 registration fee, participants can join the group, receive day passes for Highgrove Fitness Centre and attend weekly weigh-ins and meetings on Wednesday evenings at the hospice in Northwood.

There will be a varied timetable every week, including a pep talk to keep people motivated by Martinne Aston, of Gymophobics in Ruislip Manor.

Each meeting will feature a nutrition talk or exercise challenge including zumba, tai chi, yoga and Bollywood dancing.

Those taking part will be invited to keep a food and exercise diary and join a facebook group where members can support each other.

Those taking part are asked to raise at least £250 in sponsorship over the three months.

The winner will receive a hair makeover by HOB Salons in Hatch End and a three-month subscription to Gymophobics.

The first meeting is on Wednesday, January 7 at 7pm when people will be invited to a weigh in and fitness assessment.

Last year’s winner, Eddie O’Sullivan, lost 28 lbs during the 12-week challenge and raised £3,750.
