IN-PATIENTS at Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood can now enjoy a new TV with DVD player by their bedside, thanks to a grant of £3,650 from the Heathrow Communities Together Trust.
Two long-standing volunteers at MSH, Mary Niven and Alan Jenkins, made the whole thing possible. Mary, who has been a volunteer at the hospice for 32 years, suggested the idea of getting the 20 bedside TVs and trolleys. She researched and costed the equipment and then MSH won approval for their grant application. Alan spent several weeks assembling the TVs and trolleys, ensuring that all were safely secured.
Heathrow Communities Together Projects are funded by Heathrow's passengers and the Heathrow Community Fund.
The awards help groups in the area to start projects supporting their community and improving their local environment.
The scheme is open to schools, community groups, residents’ associations and charities.
The awards are funded in a unique way – from foreign and British currency donated every day by passengers in Heathrow’s baggage halls and departure lounges.
