MORE than 1,000 children and young people from schools across Hillingdon have entered a council-run competition to design comic strips illustrating safety tips for travelling to school.
Organised by Hillingdon's road safety team, the competition invited anyone attending primary or secondary school to create a sequence of pictures explaining how to make their journey to school safer.
Cllr Keith Burrows, cabinet member for transport, said: "Getting to and from school is part of every child's life and the road safety team is keen to ensure these journeys are safe and enjoyable.
“This competition, now in its fourth year, is a great way of educating children and young people about keeping safe.”
The road safety team faced the hard task of whittling it down to 55 finalists.
The winning comics have been collected into three books that will be distributed to schools.
Finalists were also invited to a presentation ceremony hosted by the Mayor, Cllr Catherine Dann, on Monday, when they each collected a certificate and a Kindle Touch as a prize.
