A TEAM of 48 members of staff and families from Ryefield Primary School in Hillingdon have signed up for the Michael Sobell Hospice Ladies in the Night Walk on Friday, June 12.

The team has been put together by the school’s welfare officer, Michele Dell. She and her colleague, Kay Avery, have taken part in the hospice walk several times before. They lost a close friend to cancer who died at the hospice and they wanted to support the walk again this year.

The team is made up of 44 members of staff and four relatives. Staff from all areas have joined, including dinner ladies, cleaners, male and female teachers, office staff and the deputy head and headmistress. Some of the staff are unable to attend the event but have donated the registration fee to the charity.

Nicola Forster, the headmistress, explained why the school are entering such a large team. “Cancer touches everyone, and we have had three members of staff who have passed away from this cruel disease,” she said.

“ We are a very close and community-minded school and we wanted to support a local charity and make a difference to local people’s lives. We have already started our training by setting up a staff zumba club to make sure we are ready for the walk!”
