THE rehabilitation team at Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood, which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses, will be fully funded for a year, thanks to the Mayor of Hillingdon's charity appeal.

At a quiz night in aid of the mayor's charity appeal, Cllr Catherine Dann, Mayor of Hillingdon, presented a cheque for £36,800 to the hospice.

This will cover the cost of rehabilitating Hillingdon people who need the hospice's help to improve their quality of life.

Cllr Catherine Dann, Mayor of Hillingdon, said: "Thank you to everyone who has given so generously to help fund Michael Sobell Hospice's rehabilitation team for a year, the latest milestone for my charity appeal.

“It was an honour to be able to present a cheque for such a significant amount, knowing that so many local people will be able to access their outstanding services over the next 12 months."

Michael Sobell Hospice relies on charitable donations to keep it running. Since opening in 1977, it has made an incredible difference to the lives of thousands of Hillingdon residents and their loved ones.

The Mayor and her supporters, including Barclays Bank, have been fund-raising for the hospice throughout her term in office with quiz nights, a sponsored walk and other events.

So far, her charity appeal has received more than £56,000 in donations, which has helped to buy a range of items on the hospice's wish list, including a sundial for the garden, upgraded wi-fi access for patients and families, an accessible bath and training about palliative care for local GPs and hospital medical staff.

The mayor has also funded the urgent replacement of an industrial washing machine at a cost of £3,069.
