RESIDENTS, businesses, schools and community groups are being invited to take part in Hillingdon in Bloom, the council's annual horticultural competition.

This year's competition was launched by the Mayor, Cllr Catherine Dann, on Tuesday, during National Gardening Week, at the Rural Activities Garden Centre in West Drayton Road.

Efforts for Hillingdon in Bloom contribute towards the borough's entry in two prestigious competitions run by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Last year, Hillingdon triumphed at London in Bloom by being given gold status in the large city category, before going on to win silver-gilt at the Britain in Bloom awards.

There are 18 competition categories, including best window box and best residential street.

After judging takes place in July, winners of Hillingdon in Bloom will be announced at the autumn show fruit and vegetable show in September at the Civic Centre.
