MORE than £500,000 has been ploughed into the rebuilding of three borough bowls clubs, Deane Park, Bessingby Park and Cowley, as well as providing a new car park for Hayes Bowls Club.

The new Cowley club was officially opened on March 31, following Bessingby Park and Deane Park the previous month.

The new buildings have kitchens, changing rooms and lockers, as well as space for short mat bowls to be played indoors during winter, allowing club members to take part all year round.

The money has come from Hillingdon Council, whose leader and older people's champion, Cllr Ray Puddifoot, said: "We are committed to assisting residents of all ages in developing an active and healthy lifestyle.

“Our bowls clubs are part of this as they provide a facility for exercise while also offering an excellent opportunity for socialising."

Hillingdon has also set aside a further £900,000 in this financial year to rebuild or refurbish bowls clubs in other parts of the borough.

Extra funding will also be available to help clubs recruit new members.
