THE winners of the annual Hillingdon Hospitals staff awards, including the publicly-nominated Compassionate Care Award, have been announced by the NHS Foundation Trust.

Those successful in seven different categories were announced last week at a celebration event at the Park Inn Hotel, Heathrow.

Chief Executive Shane DeGaris said: “The awards provide a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our staff and say thank-you for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

“What really made it special this year was the response from the public. We had a huge number of nominations, which really shows our staff have a lasting impact on the lives of their patients.”

This was the first year that members of the public were invited to nominate - in the Compassionate Care category - which resulted in more than 170 nominations and was ultimately won by Staff Nurse Jackie Spencer.

Jackie was nominated by a patient from outside London after she went the extra mile by helping the family find accommodation after her patient was admitted.

Jackie also had feedback from patients praising her care and gentle manner.

The winners were a closely guarded secret, only being announced at the ceremony, which also celebrates staff who have reached a long service milestone with the Trust.
