A HAYES guru is staging a barefoot walk to Downing Street next month to strive for peace and unity in the town.

Walking without shoes is nothing new for Jai Kali, 70, who has 30 years practice in shedding his socks.

And he is encouraging others to join him in his walk from Trafalgar Square to meet Prime Minister David Cameron on January 13, though is content for others to don their boots.

Mr Kali said he was inspired by a desire to combat the terrorism strikes affecting the world.

“I was in Earls Court the day of the 7/7 attacks, it was very close to home," he said.

“After seeing the terrible, horrendous things that happened to Lee Rigby, and after the recent Paris attack, it has motivated me to fight evil.

“Terrorism has no religion. I want to put things in place to reduce Islamophobia which is, in itself, causing more terrorism.”

He currently aids the less fortunate within the community, offering a free helpline to those in need.

He raises money through cooking classes and home treatments, with Barclays Bank previously matching his fundraising pound for pound in aid of international disasters, totalling thousands.

“This will be my last project," said Mr Kali.  "I will be fighting evil with peace for the rest of my life.”

Anyone who would like to take part in the walk (optional barefoot) should meet in Trafalgar Square on January 13 at 12.30pm.
