DETECTIVES have launched a murder investigation after an 18-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Hayes.

The man, who has not been named, was found collapsed in Gledwood Gardens by the Gledwood Drive junction just before 4pm yesterday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested a short distance away on suspicion of murder after paramedics treated the victim at the scene for stab injuries but he died at 4.37pm.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, who is leading the Homicide and Major Crime Command investigation, said: "I would ask anyone who has information that could assist this investigation to contact the incident room.

"We are especially keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Gledwood Gardens shortly before 4pm and witnessed the assault to come forward."

Police believe the victim was initially attacked at an address in Glenwood Gardens.

A suspect remained in custody at a west London police station this morning.

Officers said he and the victim were known to each other.
