Uxbridge Folk Club are starting a new season of monthly concerts and will welcome the return of a favourite duo - and a first view of another - later this month.

Steve Hicks and Lynn Goulbourn will be performing in a show on Thursday September 29 after doing a sparkling gig last year.

A beautiful voice, and a set of songs with plenty of variety and a wide range of influences, both in and beyond the folk world will be on show.

You may well hear folk, blues, early music, jazz and no doubt some of the fine songs from their new album which they take on tour through October.

And all the amateur guitarists will be drooling over Steve's guitar work, not to mention the guitars, most of which he built himself.

The range of genres from support act Kate Williams and Dave Thorpe will also be wide.

There are no beautiful voices here as Steve has a gravelly lived-in voice, and Kate's sparkling playing is usually on the mandolin.

But you'll need to work out for yourself who started as a classical pianist and who started as a busker!

Uxbridge Folk Club www.tinyurl.com/uxfolk meets on the last Thursday of the month at Uxbridge Royal Naval Association, 388a Long Lane, Hillingdon, Middlesex. UB10 9PG (2 mins from Hillingdon Tube Station) and supports all kinds of acoustic music.

It draws its audience from all round north and west London and welcomes floor singers and musicians.

The room has comfortable armchairs and an excellent bar.

Doors open 7.30pm but music starts at 8.00pm with a support act followed by the headline artists at 8.45pm.

After some floor spots the main artists come back and everything finishes at 11.00pm. Entry is £8 on the door (£3 students; Under-18s free)
