Two police officers from Hillingdon have been praised for their 'exceptional act of bravery' in saving a woman from her burning home.

PC Shand Panesar and PC Craig Nicholson attended the fire at a house in Bridgwater Road, South Ruislip, at around 20:30hrs on Tuesday, 20 September.

On establishing that a woman was trapped inside the house, and realising the need for urgent action, both male officers entered the burning building and rescued the woman prior to the arrival of London Fire Brigade a few minutes later.

The officers administered first aid including CPR, before the arrival of London Ambulance Service. The 30-year-old woman was taken to hospital where her condition is described as stable, not life threatening and non life changing. The woman does not wish to be identified at this time.

Speaking about the heroic act, acting chief superintendent Colin Wingrove, of Hillingdon, said: "This represents an exceptional act of bravery by the police officers who put themselves in harm's way to enter a burning building and save a woman's life.

"They made sure she received the urgent medical care she needed once out of the house, which included giving CPR. Whilst the woman remains in hospital receiving treatment there is an investigation taking place to establish the cause of the fire.

"I am extremely proud of the officers, and they will be back on duty tonight with all our other teams working as ever to keep Hillingdon safe."

The cause of the fire is being investigated by Met officers alongside colleagues from London Fire Brigade.
