Secretary of state for foreign affairs Boris Johnson successfully landed the Children’s Air Ambulance on an ‘emergency flight’ during the Conservative Party Conference.

Mr. Johnson stopped off at the Children’s Air Ambulance stand at the event at the ICC in Birmingham – and proved himself a more than capable pilot when he had a go at the flight simulator on our stand.

He was rated as promising new pilot after landing the helicopter at his local airport, landing the helicopter in just 45s and making it onto the leaderboard.

The country’s only dedicated paediatric helicopter emergency transfer service has just signed a deal for two new helicopters.

Transfers by helicopter can be up to four times quicker than by road and can mean the difference between life and death for the most seriously ill patients.

The expansion of the national Children’s Air Ambulance will mean it can meet demand for its unique services, ensuring it can help every child in the UK who needs a lifesaving flight.

The new helicopters should be in the skies during 2017.

The service, which operates from Coventry Airport, has plans to set up two new bases in the north and the south of the country.
