Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue celebrated the festival of Sukkot, the Jewish harvest festival this week.

The community built its Sukkah of wood and foliage and craft decorations, in remembrance of the temporary booths the ancient Israelites used in the fields whilst the harvest was gathered.

NPLS Rabbi, Aaron Goldstein, achieved this with the help of a drumming circle.

He said: "With a nod to a rain dance and whole heap of fun, we created joy and wonderful memories with some families having 3 generations engaged together."

The children waved the lulav and etrog - four species instructed to be shaken. It was possibly an ancient call for rain in its due season.

It was felt that as British Jews, we did not need more rain in the UK but it was still appropriate to hope that rain would come to drought-afflicted regions of the globe.

Jews join to celebrate this festival and make it the most joyous day of the year.
