The Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra will use its next concert to focus on some of the most popular and well-loved music for strings.

The concert, on May 7, will include Vaughan Williams’ magical Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - the song has been voted number 3 in the Classic FM Hall of Fame for 3 years in a row.

Barber’s moving Adagio for Strings will also be performed and bring a more solemn feel to the concert.

The concert provides an opportunity to hear HPO’s Strings in Concert without accompaniment.

The only other instrument to be heard will be the solo piano in Finzi’s Eclogue for which Mariela Cingo will join the group as pianist.

Currently proceeding through its 31st Season, the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra is now well established in the local area with over 60 registered members, having performed an incredibly wide and varied repertoire of works over the years.

‘Strings in Concert’ will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the Orchestra, Peter J. Williams.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm on Sunday May 7 at Ickenham United Reformed Church, Swakeleys Road, Ickenham, UB10 8BE.
