100 golfers took to the fairway on Thursday, June 29 for the annual golf day at Sandy Lodge Golf Club in Northwood, raising a whopping £28,000 (after costs) in celebration of 40 years of local hospice care.

From 10am, male and female members of the club, and other guests, took to the 18-hole course in a bid to raise vital funds for Michael Sobell, which provides specialist palliative care to local people and their families through services such as its 16-bedded In-Patient Unit and Day Centre.

Business sponsors on the day included Robsons Estate Agents, 10ways.com, PHD Access, Northwood Nursing & Care Services, Copylogic, Orchard Dental Care, Garage Services Watford, Media Powerhouse, Vermont, Lamertons Opticians, Gunn Agri Partners, Food @ The Lodge Catering Services, Sherwood Compliance Services, Aqua Wealth Management, David Sayers and Chris Casserly.

Commenting on the donation, Lindsey Fealey, Michael Sobell Hospice Charity chief executive, whose mother is currently receiving care in the In-Patient Unit, said: “Since its inauguration in 2002, our golf day has raised an incredible amount of money – over a quarter of a million pounds in fact towards the Hospice.

“On behalf of everyone involved with Michael Sobell, I would like to say a huge thank you to Sandy Lodge Golf Club members and our wonderful business and individual supporters. £28,000 will go a long way towards ensuring the continued funding of a very special and unique place; close to mine and many people’s hearts.”
