A MAN who fled the scene of a road accident in Harlington, which inured an elderly woman and wrecked a car was sentenced to 36 months in prison at Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday.
Jasdeep Munjal, 38 pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice. He was also banned from driving for three years.
The incident occurred in August 2015 when the 79-year-old victim’s vehicle was struck by Munjal, driving in the opposite direction.
Despite severe damage to his car, Munjal drove off in a dangerous manner and then abandoned the car nearby on the A4 Bath Road.
The woman was admitted to hospital and kept in overnight as a precaution.
Officers discovered the abandoned car and were able to get the name of its driver through registered keeper records.
Munjal, of Somerset Way, Iver, told police it had been stolen from his parents’ address in Iver and that he had been at Suneia Bhanot’s house and knew nothing about the collision. Bhanot provided police with an alibi for him.
After further questioning, inconsistencies began to appear in their accounts and it became clear Munjal and Bhanot had made false statements.
Bhanot, 35, admitted perverting the course of justice. She was sentenced to a year in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work.
