WHITE water rafting and rock climbing were among the activities enjoyed by an Uxbridge scout group when they attended an international scout camp in Switzerland.

The 23 members of the Polaris Explorer Unit, based at 1st Uxbridge Scouts, who attended the 10-day event, had a grant of £1,000 to help them pay for it.

Persimmon Homes North London chose Polaris Explorer to be one of its monthly Community Champions. The scheme invites groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

An international scout camp is held every four years and is attended by up to 500 young people and their leaders.

Organiser Jan Vanderplank said: “The unit had a brilliant time and took part in some great activities. The money Persimmon donated was used to cover the cost of some of these.”

Damian Seddon, director in charge at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “This is exactly the kind of grassroots organisation we like to support as it is clear that they provide a real service for youngsters in the community and must be greatly valued.”

“If people were unsuccessful last month in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and try again.”
