A HAYES man set a new Guinness World Record for Fastest Half Marathon in a Straitjacket at the London Landmarks Half Marathon in central London.

Pardip Minhas, 49, a father of two, set a time of 1 hour 43 minutes and 43 seconds running in his restrictive jacket.

Minhas is no stranger to weird and wonderful record-breaking, having previously set the world record for Fastest Half Marathon Wearing Handcuffs in December 2017 and attempted others, including Fastest Half Marathon While Spinning A Fidget Spinner, Fastest Half Marathon Dressed As A Swimmer and Fastest Marathon In Flip Flops.

Speaking on the finish line, he said: “I stayed with the pace maker from start to finish to give myself a good idea I would get the record.

“It was the perfect race: the weather and the course was absolutely fantastic.”

The event was hailed a success by event organisers Tommy’s as reports came in that they had exceeded their £4m fund-raising target, with more donations expected in the coming weeks.

Close to 10,000 started the event, which began on Pall Mall and finished on Whitehall, near Downing Street, with more than 40,000 spectators expected.
