DOGS Trust West London, based in Harefield, held a fund-raising event in memory of its longest-serving volunteer, Brendan White, who died last year.

The day’s activities included a raffle, cake sale and even a doggy tombola.

Brendan became an integral part of the team at Harefield, giving up 10,000 hours of his time to care for the dogs over 11 years.

Money raised from the event will go towards an area in the grounds where his two- and four-legged friends can visit and remember him.

Jo Lloyd, assistant manager, said: “Brendan’s passing was a huge loss to the rehoming centre and for the four-legged friends he used to care for.

“He had such a unique and special bond with our longer-term dogs – a strong bond of trust and friendship that had developed over the 11 years they spent together.

“A loyal and committed volunteer, Brendan came in to help us five days a week without fail. As he didn’t have many family members, he became part of our Dogs Trust family.

“Everyone knew and respected Brendan – he was such a kind-hearted man who did so much for our dogs.”

The event raised more than £700, and fellow volunteers Matt FitzGerald and Nikki Brown donated an incredible additional £5,000 to the rehoming centre in his memory.
