A HAYES initiative to get children playing more sport has been given a £1,000 boost by a regional housebuilder.
Brookside Sports Club received the donation from Persimmon Homes North London through its monthly Community Champions scheme. The builder chose the group to benefit from its match-funded donation.
The club, an initiative by a local Asian minority group, offers children the chance to engage in community sport, to improve their physical health and sporting skills.
Brookside spokesman Shankar Thevasigamany said: “We have started with football as our main activity as most children have shown their interest in that sport. Older children are encouraged to provide coaching.
“We are focusing our fund-raising efforts on buying equipment, such as footballs and goal posts, as well as providing professional coaching to more than 100 children in the community.

“Thanks to donations from parents and family members, we have raised nearly £4,000, so the donation from Persimmon Homes is an incredible boost.”
Damian Seddon, director-in-charge at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “Playing sport offers so much more than the chance to become fit.
“It gives opportunities for leadership, commitment, responsibility and confidence. Therefore, it was an easy decision to support a group such as Brookside Sports Club.
“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and try again.”
