ONE of the country’s longest serving school crossing patrollers is celebrating 40 years of service.
Stella Muncaster, who was awarded an MBE in 2006 for services to road safety, has worked at Cherry Lane Primary School, West Drayton, since 1968 also helping out during lunchtimes and speaking in road safey assemblies.
Stephen Whitehouse, head teacher of the school which has more than 400 pupils, said: “She has a long standing good relationship with the children, she knows most of them by name and their families.”
Mr Whitehouse also said that Ms Muncaster was presented with flowers to mark the occasion.
Ms Muncaster, of West Drayton, started her career with the Metropolitan Police’s school crossing patrol service before transferring to Hillingdon Council in 2000.
Chris Norman, head of Business Services, said: “I would like to congratulate Stella for her outstanding service, she is a true inspiration to all other school crossing patrols.”
There are currently vacancies on the Hillingdon crossing patrol team.
