Tributes to former Mayor of Hillingdon, Alf Langley


TRIBUTES have been paid to former Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Alf Langley, who died on Friday.

Mr Langley, (Con) who was elected to Hillingdon Council in 1982, was married to his wife Katy for 62 years. They have one son, Gerald.

He was a very popular man both within the council and the community, where he was well-known and liked. He was the only councillor to have held the office of Mayor of Hillingdon on three seperate occassions - from 1992 - 1993, from 1998 - 1999 and again from 2003 - 2004.

Leader of Hillingdon Council, Councillor Ray Puddifoot said: "Alf Langley served the borough of Hillingdon with dedication and commitment over many years.

"He was held in high esteem by fellow councillors of all political parties.

"We owe Alf an immense debt for his public service and his death is a sad loss to the community of Hillingdon."

Mayor of Hillingdon, Shirley Harper O'Neill, said: "On behalf of the London Borough of Hillingdon, the Mayor, Cllr Shirley Harper-O'Neill and her escorts, would like to send their deepest regrets to Mrs Kathy Langley and her son, Gerald Langley.

"We were all saddened to hear that Alf had passed away late Friday afternoon in hospital. All Hillingdon councillors had the greatest respect for Alf, he was a wonderful councillor, an excellent Mayor of Hillingdon three times, with Kathy his wife, standing by his side."

She added: "All councillors will have fond memories of his involvement in so many ways, he touched and enriched so many lives and will be greatly missed".

The funeral of Alf Langley will be held on Wednesday 8 July at Virgin Parish Church, Hayes.
