TOWNFIELD residents are already asking to book space in their new community centre – even though it doesn’t open until November.
At the Townfield Community Day at the end of June, residents found out all about the new facilities that will be in the refurbished centre when it opens.
The day was organised by Hillingdon Homes and construction partner Apollo Housing, which is doing the building work at the centre in Townfield Road, Hayes.
Two of the partners in the project - the Townfield Residents Association and Age Concern Hillingdon - joined the day to explain to residents how they plan to use the council-owned centre.
Trampolining, bouncy castles, Wii games and a drawing competition kept all ages entertained at the open day, and one resident went home with a new combined flat screen TV and DVD after winning the prize draw.
Councillor Philip Corthorne, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services, Health and Housing said: “We’ve listened to what people want and were pleased to be able to show how we’ve incorporated what they asked for into the designs. Obviously there are lots of residents in the area who – like us – can’t wait for the centre with its excellent new facilities to open.”
The new centre will include an internet café, rooms to hire for parties and clubs, office space, and treatment rooms. For the first time the building will have a lift to enable anyone with impaired mobility or a buggy to use the centre more easily. Heating and hot water will be provided by a state-of-the-art environmentally friendly ground source heat pump.
The £800,000 project to refurbish the centre is a partnership between Hillingdon Council, Hillingdon Homes, Apollo Housing, Paradigm Housing Group, Hillingdon Community Trust, Age Concern Hillingdon, Townfield Residents Association and the Government’s Community Assets Fund.
