UXBRIDGE College students and staff were celebrating A level results today, which brought some high flying top performers along with a 97 per cent pass rate.
Tarique Hasan, 19, got A grades in Further Maths, Maths, additional further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and will be going to Imperial College to study Physics.
Tarique, from East Avenue, Hayes, has studied a number of modules by himself as well as being taught in class. He studied at an English speaking school in Bangladesh before coming to the UK to do his A levels.
Out of eighteen mathematical modules studied at Uxbridge College, ten of them were self-taught, and Tarique achieved exceptional module results in all his Mathematics modules. Out of a total of 30 units studied across all his A levels, he achieved grade As in 29 of them.
Joseph Nelson, 20, of Croyde Avenue, Hayes, achieved a total of four A levels at Uxbridge College, 3 A grades in Government & Politics, Media Studies and Sociology, and a grade B in psychology. He will be going to Glasgow University to study English Literature with film and television. He has a total of seven A levels from having previously studied at Harlington Community School.
He said: “I am happy with the results and looking forward to going to university.”
Qitao Xu, 19, of Myddleton Road, Uxbridge, got three A grades in Further Maths, Maths and Physics and will be studying Electronic Engineering at Southampton University.
Dr Darrell DeSouza, vice principal for Curriculum and Standards at Uxbridge College, said: “Again this is an extremely pleasing set of results for Uxbridge College with a 97 per cent pass rate and an impressive set of success stories. We are delighted to see so many of our students going on to their university or job of choice – something which would not have been possible without both their own dedicated efforts and the commitment of our staff."
He added: "I would like to congratulate every student who has achieved this year, and also say that in many cases their achievements on paper do not tell the whole story. Our achievers don’t always have the easiest starts so they may be overcoming huge odds to reach their goals.
“As well as the A level results, we also have a very good set of AS grades, which is particularly gratifying in the light of recent changes to these courses. We would also like to recognise the vocational achievers going on to further study or the job of their choice, including those who may have done BTECs, access courses and technical training.
“This year’s A level results follow our award of Beacon status and the recent news that we are the best college in London for educating young people for the third year running. We also recently celebrated our first anniversary as an outstanding college under Ofsted, and this year’s results certainly confirm that our excellent work is continuing.”
