YIEWSLEY and West Drayton are to get a facelift as part of Hillingdon Council’s Town Centre Improvement Programme.
The two areas will receive the first £400,000 for a planned two-year facelift in the spring.
The first phase, which has started, will include new paving and some trees in High Street, Yiewsley, between the library and no 136 High Street, and at Station Road, West Drayton, in the vicinity of its junction with Swan Road.
At the same time improvements will take place to the lighting under the rail bridge, to increase both the daytime and night time lighting levels.
The two-year project has been developed following consultation with residents earlier last year. The final scheme, which is being jointly funded, by the council and Transport for London (TfL) will include new pavements, new trees, reduction in street furniture clutter, better access for buses, improvements at the two bridges in the town centre, better pedestrian crossings and a reduction in traffic congestion.
Councillor Burrows said: “This is very good news for the people of Yiewsley and West Drayton who will soon have a high street to be really proud of. We have already made major improvements to Ruislip, Harefield, Northwood and Uxbridge town centres as part of our commitment to improve the look and feel of our main town centres.”
