A RANGE of facilities at Breakspear Crematorium will be officially opened this weekend, Saturday, March 6, following an extensive programme of improvement works.
The Crematorium, jointly owned by Hillingdon Council and Harrow Council, originally opened in 1957 and is now the fourth biggest crematorium in the UK.
The improvement works were undertaken to create additional space, accommodating the differing needs of the community and improving overall access to the facility. This has included: New multi-purpose hall to accommodate larger funerals New waiting rooms Improved parking provision Refurbishment of west chapel forecourt and flower gardens New crematory equipment which meets new Government emission targets The crematorium also includes a new video system, which allows relatives who are unable to attend funerals to watch the ceremony through the Internet.
Councillor Shirley Harper-O'Neill, Mayor of Hillingdon said: “The new features incorporated into these improvement works are fantastic and will ensure that the crematorium provides modern and innovative facilities that will be used by visitors for many years to come.”
Councillor Eric Silver, Mayor of Harrow, said: "This facility has been outstandingly redesigned and takes into account the changing nature of funeral services. Bereavement is always an incredibly difficult time, but I am certain Breakspear Crematorium will, as always, carry on its operations with sensitivity and dignity and will be a credit to Harrow and Hillingdon."
