A CORRUPT legal adviser from Hayes is facing a further three years in prison unless he hands over more than £245,000.

Ravi Gupta, 41, of Carlyon Road, was jailed in August after admitting 14 charges of assisting illegal immigration and one of obtaining leave to remain by deception.

He has since been ordered to hand over the money or face a further three years, on top of the four and a half years he is serving.

As an accredited immigration law adviser, Gupta made thousands of pounds supplying clients with fake documents including certificates and pay slips that helped their immigration applications.

Charging an average £5,000 per application, Gupta helped his clients lie about their income but was exposed following an undercover investigation by the UK Border Agency.

It looked into the practices of Gupta’s company, Surge Global Solutions, and arrested him following a dawn raid on his home in November 2010.

A judge at Isleworth Crown Court this month offered Gupta, an Indian national, the option to buy his way out of an extended sentence.

He has six months to reach a decision on whether or not he will pay the £245,950.

Having already collected £10,000 from Gupta, Mike Ogram, from the investigation team, said: “Not only have we put this man behind bars, but we have also managed to strip him of a significant amount of money.

“He was behind a sophisticated and organised criminal plot, and I hope this demonstrates that we don’t just want to put people like him in prison. We will also find their money and stop them from benefiting financially from their criminality.”
