X FACTOR finalist Kye Sones began his musical journey as a pupil at Breakspear Junior School.

Kye, 30, grew up in Hillingdon and at Breakspear played the lead in Joseph’s Technicolor Dreamcoat.

He went on to Vyners School in Ickenham and is currently being mentored by Gary Barlow in the over-28s category.

Kye’s mother, Barbara Sones, a children’s magician, said: “Over the years he’s tried lots of things, but he’s always written his own music and this has been his lucky break.”

When he isn’t singing, the X Factor finalist works with his older brother, Pian, as a chimney sweep.
This was the first time Kye had auditioned for a reality talent show, and it was initially a friend who suggested he try it.

None of his family knew Kye was one of the 33,000 people that auditioned for the show.

Barbara said: “We all felt incredibly bad because everybody was there with their families and Kye was on his own.”

She waits for Kye to get in contact because she doesn’t want to disturb him during this busy period.

“It’s like living in a bubble for him,” she said.

Last Sunday’s controversy, when the talented Carolynne Poole left the competition, means that the over-28s category is now down to two contestants.

Barbara said it was a real shame that talented Carolynne left and explained how difficult it had been for all the contestants who became friends on the show.

“I think you have to look at it as though it’s a platform –  I think that’s what Kye will be thinking. He’ll go on and do his best,” said Barbara.

His mother said it was an emotional moment sitting in the audience at last Saturday’s show watching her son sing Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror.

She said: “The whole family are incredibly proud – we’ve all been crying like mad.”

Family and friends are trying to rally support within Ickenham and the wider Middlesex region because of their strong links to the area.

On Saturday night’s show, they sported their new T-Shirts covered with messages of support and #TeamKye details printed on them.
