Scary treats, ghoulish make-up and spooky dances at Uxbridge College brought in cash for the Mayor of Hillingdon’s charities.

The Halloween-themed event – run by the college’s entrepreneurs’ society the Young Dragons – was attended by the Mayor Cllr Michael Markham and Mayoress Mrs Rosemary Markham.

The Mayor and Mayoress joined students and staff buying items including homemade cakes, biscuits and ‘mocktails’, and enjoyed the themed singing and dancing by performing arts students.

Cllr Markham even got involved in the face painting – taking over from beauty therapy student Lauren King to help create a dog face for Danny Hulusi.

The event included five mini-companies run by business and retail students, offering various Halloween items as well as a raffle. Foundation Studies and Beauty Therapy students also got involved.

Sharon McCann from Student Support, who helped organise the event, said: “Everyone involved has worked incredibly hard to make this event a success.

“As well as contributing to the wider community through charity fundraising, students have learned a huge amount about what’s involved in running a business – and also had a lot of fun.

“This kind of event is a great opportunity to bring everyone together – and to get some delicious homemade cakes and biscuits at a bargain price!”

Following the event, a total of £150 will go to the Mayor’s charities which include the children’s hospice Shooting Star CHASE, Hillingdon Young Carers and AgeUK Hillingdon.
