Original dance numbers using jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap, urban and improvisation skills were performed as part of Uxbridge College’s 'One Night Only' show.

The showcase, involving 12 students on BTEC Level 3 performing arts courses, demonstrated the complete range of skills learned during their courses. Most of the choreography was designed by the students, with support from their lecturer.

Dance Lecturer Amy Sorrell said: “’One Night Only’ was the result of a five week project, which is a pretty short time in which to put together and rehearse a show. This timescale reflected the pressure that dancers in a professional company would be under, with a high intensity of rehearsals and the necessary commitment to the highest creative and technical standards. The final result was a real credit to every one of the students involved.”

'One Night Only' was the college’s end of year dance show and included a matinee and evening performance at Uxbridge College in Hayes.

The students were from the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Performing Arts and the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. A number are going on to higher education courses at Roehampton University, the University of East London and The Urdang Academy. Another has also secured training to become a dance teacher with a local dance school.
