Emma Thompson and Alistair McGowan buy land at Heathrow

ACTRESS Emma Thompson and impressionist Alistair McGowan have bought land in Sipson in a bid to stop expansion at Heathrow.

The land, half the size of a football pitch, was bought by the stars who are part of a Greenpeace coalition.

The group has pledged to put a spanner in the works of possible expansion at the airport, and said they would fight any attempts to buy the land by compulsory purchase.

The Government is expected to make it's decision on Heathrow expansion within days.

Has publicity value, but won`t delay building if the go ahead is given.

I agree with Catbird, pubilicty value only, the expansion of Heathrow has to go ahead!!

It's a difficult juggling act, enviroment vs the fututre prosperity of west london.

The new third runway will not go into action straight away, some years will pass due to construction and updating transport links, so by the time we have a new runway we will also have more enviromentaly friendly aircraft.

It's important that the expansion is supported, we hear in the news everyday that companies are going under, people are loosing their jobs and the unemployment line is getting longer.

There are 70 odd thousand people who work in and around Heathrow, all of these men and women are in danger of joing the unemployment line if Heathrow does not expand.

This country has no other industry, manfacturing has gone to eastern europe and the far east, we have no service industry, this has all gone to asia, we don't have a car industry, so what do we have?? Tourism if foreign travellers can get to the UK.

Face reality, we are a land of consumers, that's it, nothing more!

This country is going nowhere and is showing to the rest of the world that it's going nowhere.
When other nations are investing in their inferstruture we are doing nothing!!

I ask my self, what am I still doing in this god forsaken country
I thjink it's time to pack up and move to a forward thinking country
somewhere in mainland Europe where all the UK Airlines will end up

To all you ecomentalists, what will you do when the government bail out the car industry, probably nothing!
