ATHLETES, sports clubs and volunteers in Hillingdon were recognised in the Mayor’s Awards for Sporting Achievement.
Among the winners was Louise Butler, who was named Young Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her commitment to events across London.
A gold bursary was also awarded to 18-year-old weightlifter Namatullah Ahmadi, from Hayes, who is currently British No.1 for his age.
He will receive £5,000 to help his training for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
Leanne Parkinson, captain of Eastcote Hockey ladies first team, winners of the Team of the Year praised teammates and coach Adam Mulholland for helping to develop the players of the future through the club's youth set-up.
Sportsperson of the year was golfer Aadam Syed, of Hayes, a pupil at Bishopshalt School and a member of Ealing Golf Club. Last year, he won his second successive US Kids European Championship.
