AFTER a standout performance last year, skier Cara Brown says she is ready to make another step up at this year’s British Alpine Championships in Tignes.

The 21-year-old came away from last year’s tournament with 12 podium finishes and won the Sir John Ritblat Victor Ludorum Trophy.

It was a stellar rise to prominence for Brown who, just one year earlier, had just one trophy to show for her endeavours.

This time, however, she knows there will be a larger target on her back but insists she is ready to rise to the occasion.

“I won 12 titles at last year’s championships so they had a lot of engraving to do,” she said. “I won the Victor Ludorum, as well, which was great because that takes into account the men and women.

“Now it’s different because people will want to beat me, but I think that motivates me as well.

“I’d competed in the British Championships every year since I was a junior, which is seven years, and hadn’t won anything until 2013.”

It has already been a busy season for Brown, who will head to the British Championships off the back of the world juniors.

While there was no silverware on the world stage, she says the experience was another to add to her resumé as she seeks to continue her improvement.

“I think this has shown me how far I need to go to get to the top level,” she said, “but it’s been really encouraging because I’ve been the top Brit in all my events.

“In the long run, the Winter Olympics is my goal. I will give the next few years a real go and look towards the world championships in 2017 and then Pyongyang 2018.”
