HILLINGDON went two better than last year’s fourth place finish at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games BMX competition on Sunday. They won a silver medal at Burgess Park BMX in Southwark.

Individual bronze medals for Stephanie Webb and Ross Dell, and a silver for Dylan Merrick, secured second place for their borough against 21 other teams in the fourth LYG BMX event.

Hackney won gold and Lambeth went home with bronze.

The success was down to the team’s determination, according to Hillingdon team manger Dawn Binnington.

“They all came together at the end and we had an excellent team,” she said.

“They never gave up. They all did their very best and, if they didn’t come first, they didn’t get upset about it - they tried harder.”

BMX is one of 33 sports in the 2015 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.
