Street cyclist Lauren Dolan is hoping her recent exploits at the European Youth Olympic Festival can help propel her to senior glory in the future.

The 15-year-old South Devon rider pulled off the biggest achievement of her career in July when she took bronze in Tbilisi in the girls’ time trial.

Dolan comes from a strong cycling pedigree – with her father Mark having competed for Britain – and is keen to one day stand atop an Olympic podium.

And she says that she will keep working hard so that she can one day achieve her goal.

“My dad was a cyclist back in the day for GB and I’ve always been interested in sport from a young age,” she said.

“My dad is most definitely my inspiration. I’ve looked up to him and his passion for the sport and his determination. I look up to him a lot."

“The season has gone really well for me, this is my second season of racing and I’ve won a couple of national events but the biggest thing would be the Youth Olympics."

“It’s my proudest achievement to have done so well there when I went to the European Youth Olympics in Tbilisi and I won a bronze medal."

“My main goal now is to get onto the Great Britain junior academy. From there I want to go to the European Track Cup but I’m looking forward to the future too and the big goal is always the Olympics.”

Dolan is a Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport athlete which sees her receive funding and mentoring from some of the biggest names in British sport.

The scheme has given Dolan the chance to meet some of her idols and she believes that the chance to pick the brains of the best in the business is going to be invaluable for her career.

“Bradley Wiggins is a sporting hero and I was lucky enough to meet him recently at a Jaguar Land Rover Academy event,” she added.

“He’s a real inspiration to me – he’s just gone above and beyond anyone else in the sport and to meet him just before his hour record was something special."

“I feel very privileged to be a part of the Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport. The financial support is just massive for me and my parents and without it; I think I would struggle quite a lot."

“As well as the workshops like they’ve put on today, you don’t get this anywhere else. To have the knowledge and experience from other athletes and mentors that you look up to is just incredible.”

Lauren Dolan attended the Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport workshop, mentored by ambassadors Lewis Moody and Maggie Alphonsi and SportsAid patrons Danny Crates, Bryan Steel and Kerri-Ann Payne. For more information visit sportsaid.org.uk
