Commonwealth silver medallist Charline Joiner is relishing her opportunity to join in with the inaugural Six Day London, even if she admits it may be a tough test to get her track legs back in time.

The Team WNT rider has been firmly focused on the road so far this season, with impressive top-ten finishes at the Tour de Yorkshire, the Cheshire Classic, and the Milk Race.

But a chance to star at Six Day London was too good to turn down for the 27-year-old from Dunfermline, who will also be racing in the English capital for the very first time in her career.

A former Scottish keirin, individual pursuit, and scratch race champion, Joiner certainly does not lack pedigree on the track, and the 2010 Commonwealth team pursuit silver medallist cannot wait to sample the famous Six Day atmosphere in London.

“I can’t quite believe that I’m heading down next week,” she said. “I’ve not really been focusing on the track this season, but I did before the Commonwealth Games."

“I did the Rotterdam Six Day in my preparations for that and I absolutely loved it, and I’ve been back every year. The atmosphere is just buzzing at these events."

“I’m really looking forward to the fast, exciting racing, and it’s an opportunity to see all the girls from the world track racing again and race together."

“It’s a lot of fun to get to put on a show in a Six Day race, and I’ve never raced in London before so that will be very special too."

“The Olympics looked amazing and there are three GB riders in the line-up, so I think that will get the crowd really behind us – but the best thing about Six Day is that you’re not necessarily shouting for your local riders, it’s all about the entertainment."

“You can feel the atmosphere build every time someone launches an attack, so it’s more of a show and different kind of event to a World Cup or anything like that. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Joiner will be joined by the likes of Olympic champion Dani King, six-time Paralympic champion Dame Sarah Storey, and a host of international stars in the London showcase.

Six Day London begins on Sunday at the Lee Valley VeloPark, which hosted the Olympic cycling events at London 2012, and Joiner is hoping she can produce some fireworks for the British crowd after a long period off the boards.

She added: “I’ve definitely improved on the road this season after focusing on it through the winter, and I’ve really enjoyed stepping up this year."

“But the track is my first love and I’ll always go back to it if I get the opportunity to do so for Six Days and things."

“Racing these kinds of races is really good for you during the long winter, because as a road rider you really need it."

“My season was cut a bit short through injury, so I wouldn’t say I’m the fittest I’ve ever been, but I’m going to enjoy it and put on a show."

“I’ve no idea how I’m going to go – it’s going to be a bit of a surprise – but I have been out on the Glasgow velodrome again to get the legs spinning again the last couple of weeks.”
