Two-time Olympic champion Pete Reed says he is ready to seize the day as he gears up for the ‘magical’ British Indoor Rowing Championships at the Lee Valley VeloPark.

Reed won gold in the coxless four at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 and is gearing up to make it a hat-trick of gold medals at Rio 2016.

That journey gets going at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Saturday with Reed and co taking to rowing machines and competing in front of a home crowd at the iconic VeloPark.

And Reed says the chance to compete is one he is relishing after missing out last year.

“The British Indoor Rowing Championships is a magical event,” said Reed, who has been working with SAS to create a Perfect Rowing Programme which highlights the intense daily routine that Olympic athletes go through in the gym.

“It is an opportunity for every rower and even health enthusiasts or people of any age just getting started to come down to an iconic venue."

“Last year I was nursing a back injury so I was just doing a bit of training and actually commentating on some of the main races and this year I will get a chance to get stuck in."

“When you are there you are very exposed. We train a lot and everything is done at Caversham and noone really knows what is going on but suddenly we are in the public eye, everyone can see how you are doing and how you are doing it."

“It is difficult to do it in those environments and I think mainly because no-one knows what goes on behind the scenes."

“We've just come back from a high altitude training camp where we've been on the rowing machines and in the gym but I personally am exhausted. I am fatigued to the line so I hope I can rebuild my body before I get going!”
