Charlie Raposo has, by his own admission, had a rollercoaster season, but is adamant he will still enter next week’s Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships full of confidence.

The Chelsea-based skier has been plying his trade on the North American and European Cup circuits this season.

He has failed to finish a number of races but also notched a trio of podiums during a purple patch in January as he finished third in St Lambrecht, Hochfuegen and Oberjoch.

In the long-term he is aiming to reach the pinnacle of the sport and is convinced he is headed in the right direction.

“I’ve been happy with some of my performances this season but it has been quite up and down on the whole,” said Raposo.

“I would say that I’ve mostly been happy with it and I’m quite confident going into the British Champs.

“I didn’t have any specific goals at the start of the season, I just wanted to continue my development as a skier which I think I’ve done – there are good signs there.

“The Winter Olympics is certainly on my mind and obviously I would love to compete there one day as well as at World Cup level.”

The Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships takes place in the world-class resort of Tignes, France from March 20 to April 1 and sees the best that Britain has to offer going head to head.

Raposo will take to the slopes for the slalom and giant slalom in Tignes with a real chance of medalling in both.

In the slalom he must contend with British No.1 Dave Ryding, who regularly records top-20 finishes in the World Cups – with a career-best 12th place coming at Val d’Isere earlier this season.

Ryding has singled out Raposo as one skier he would like to see step up and challenge him at the British Alpin Championships and the 20-year-old admits there is plenty he can learn from his countryman.

“At the British Championships I will just be competing in giant slalom and slalom,” added Raposo. “I haven’t really set myself any targets in terms of finishing position but I just want to ski hard and to ski fast.

“It’s good to see a Brit like Dave Ryding doing so well and I can learn from him. Hopefully I can challenge him and get close to him at the British Champs.”
