Walter Mazzarri has described Roberto Pereyra as a great player after he helped Watford mount a remarkable recovery in their victory at West Ham United.
Pereyra was handed his first start for the club on Saturday and the Argentine playmaker provided the assist for Etienne Capoue's goal as the visitors came from 2-0 down to win 4-2.
The former Juventus attacker caused Slaven Bilic's side plenty of problems and almost capped an impressive performance with a goal only for goalkeeper Adrian to deny him in the second half.
Watford prioritised bringing a creative midfielder to the club this summer and pulled off a major coup by signing the 25-year-old.
The Hornets' head coach was delighted with Pereyra's quality against the Hammers and also his work rate at the London Stadium.
Mazzarri said: “I’m very happy on the way he played [Pereyra]. He’s a great player and did great things but also I’m very happy with how much he ran from the beginning until to the end. I’m very happy with him.
“He’s extremely important. I was the one that wanted him here at the club from the beginning and I’m very happy he’s here. He’s an extremely important player."
