Watford Under-23s were beaten 2-0 at ten man Burnley in the second qualifying round of the Premier League Cup this afternoon.

The Hornets fell behind after just four minutes when Patrick Bamford's deflected strike was headed in by defender Jimmy Dunne.

Michael Folivi had a great chance to equalise but blasted over the bar from close range.

The hosts were reduced to ten men just before the half hour mark when defender Kevin Long was sent off for pulling back Ogo Obi when the striker was through on goal.

Obi almost netted from the free-kick but goalkeeper Nick Pope pushed his shot away to safety.

The visitors should have levelled after Obi raced through on goal but his shot lacked power and was easily saved.

Burnley threatened in the second half but shots from Freddy Yao and Bamford were well saved by keeper Charlie Bannister.

The home side doubled their lead in the 75th minute when Max Ryan tugged back Bamford in the area and the striker netted the penalty to send the Hornets to their first defeat of the season.
