A BBC Three series showing a behind-the-scenes glimpse of life at Watford will no longer be broadcast, with the corporation blaming "unforeseen circumstances" for its cancellation.

The four-part series, titled Premier League Uncovered: Inside Watford and narrated by Gary Lineker, would have borne at least a strong similarity to NBC's Behind The Badge, which is currently being broadcast in the United States.

A BBC press release, since removed, stated the first episode was due to be available from the web-only channel from Thursday, but it is now unclear when, if ever, it will appear this side of the Atlantic.

But both Watford and the BBC confirmed to the Observer the plan had been shelved, with no explanation as to why the show, announced only last week, will not be broadcast.

The BBC said in a brief statement: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the series will not currently be broadcast in the UK."

Three more episodes of NBC's Behind The Badge will be broadcast starting from this Sunday, covering last weekend's defeat to Stoke City.
